Straight answers about the Neoluthy 3D-printed violin: parts, weight, strings, materials, kits, international shipping, and whether the files are open source.
What exactly do I get?
A violin, fully assembled, set up and ready to play, in the finish you choose.
A bow and case can be added, and are required on orders shipped outside Colombia. Printed parts and full kits are not on sale right now. See below.
How many printed parts is it?
Four: the body (one piece), the neck (two pieces), and the bridge.
What isn't printed?
A short list, and it is all standard violin hardware:
Tailpiece
Endpin / button
Pegs
Strings
Chin rest
That is genuinely everything. There is no hidden pile of specialist components.
Is there a rod or reinforcement in the neck?
No. The neck holds up on print settings alone, which keeps the build simpler. Adding reinforcement is something we may explore later, but it has not been necessary.
How much does it weigh?
Around 700 g complete, with fittings and strings.
That is heavier than a wooden violin. It is one of the real trade-offs of printing an instrument, and we would rather tell you than have you find out when it arrives.
What strings does it ship with?
D'Addario Debut or Prelude. We are testing alternatives to find the best option at this price, and a string upgrade will be part of the configurator.
Strings make a bigger difference to how any violin sounds than most people expect. Very cheap strings are quieter and can even shift pitch when you play hard.
Can I buy just the printed parts?
Not at the moment. We sold printed parts and full kits, and we will again, but they are off sale until the assembly manuals are finished. A box of parts with no instructions is not something we want to send anyone.
What tools do I need to build from a kit?
This is the part nobody mentions, so here it is up front:
A hacksaw, to cut the pegs to length
A drill, for the string holes in the pegs
A peg reamer (peg-hole finishing tool), available on Amazon and AliExpress
Don't skip the reamer. Badly finished peg holes are the most common reason home-built violins end up with pegs that slip.
How big can you print?
Up to 360 by 360 by 400 mm, across eight printers.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. International orders ship through Envia, with duties included where we can. Tell us your destination in the configurator and we will quote it with your order.
Every order leaving Colombia ships inside the protective case, with a matched bow, whichever format you choose. We can't send a bare instrument or loose parts abroad, because the printed violin isn't reliable against transit temperatures without the case around it. The prices shown to international visitors already include it.
How do I pay?
It depends where it's going. In Colombia, Bre-B: scan the QR with Nequi, Bancolombia, Davivienda or any bank app. Everywhere else, PayPal. Either way you pay after placing the order, at the price shown on the site.
The price you see already includes shipping and, outside Colombia, duties. Nothing is charged while you are choosing a finish.
What materials?
PLA and PETG as standard. Other materials on request.
Do you make violas or cellos?
Not yet. A cello is being explored. It is a genuinely different problem at that scale, and we will not announce one until we have printed and played it.
